Could use Samus instead of a placeholder block sprite. Easy to fix, but it makes it kinda hard to tell what the sprite is really doing...

But I like it. Hoping for PART 4 soon...

You making a game outta it?
I dont want peopkle using my "examples" as their engines, if you are gonna add a Samus, put it yourself, it aint that hard.

but since a lot are intemediate/pro

I just want to point out something. The point between at which the code for pressing the A key is being done and the stuff that is done at alarm 1, you should restrict all movement because I think that was what it was like in the real game. Also when you run into the wall you can run in to wall as long as you like. Although I guess the not being able to run in to the wall was an engine feature not a Speed Booster feature. Anyways, great engine. I didn't realize how simple the speed booster code was.
